3rd International MUSEUM WORKERS Day
IMWD | June 29, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We invite you to join International Museum Workers Day on June 29, 2017.
IMWD is a global community of heritage and museum professionals — including: artists, scholars, art historians, scientists, archaeologists, anthropologists, curators, filmmakers, performance artists, designers & many other — whose expertise, years of experiences and dedication help create, discover, preserve, and disseminate our tangible and non-tangible cultural heritage.
International Museum Workers Day IMWD’s mission is to educate the public about various professions in the museum and heritage fields.
The project was initiated by American museologist and filmmaker Homa Taj of MUSEUMVIEWS. The event was initially called Hug A Museum Worker Day in the same spirit as “International Hug a Medievalist Day.”
The global event will take place across various social media – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube, etc.
Museum Workers are invited to introduce their professions by sharing photos of themselves (with their colleague) in their work enviroment. Camera-shy Museum Workers may choose to share a photograph of an object that embodies their profession, accompanied with a brief description of their job.
Relevant images shared by Museum & Heritage Workers – tagged #IMWD2017 or simply #IMWD – may be shared across various platforms on our social media feeds. We also actively encourage other museum and heritage institutions to do the same.
